Chime, Nwodo war rages as PDP meets aspirants today

The Muslim Rights Concern, an Islamic group, has appealed to the Federal Government to find a lasting solution to what is motivating people to plant bombs, arguing that apprehending the culprits alone without addressing the motivating factors will only bring the kind of peace found in the graveyard.

Another Islamic group, Ahmadiyya Movement in Nigeria, on Sunday asked the Federal Government to set up a judicial enquiry to unravel the causes of violence in the country.

MURIC said that the socio-economic problems facing Nigerians were enough to push some people into committing all forms of atrocities.

In a statement by its Director, Dr. Is-haq Akintola, on Sunday, MURIC explained that both the executive and the legislative arms of government at the state and federal levels had for long abdicated their responsibilities by failing to address problems of hunger, unemployment and bad roads, which led to the frustration felt by the younger generation.

The group reasoned that only the few in government and the legislators were enjoying the dividends of democracy and that they appeared to have taken a conspiratorial oath of turning the blind eye to the masses.

MURIC said, “What is happening at present is therefore not a religious uprising, nor an ethnic conflict. It is more of a manifestation of the frustrations of a ravaged people.

“Globalisation has turned the world into a sophisticated entity. Nigerians now know what is happening everywhere: in Haiti, in Italy, Spain, France, etc, where people are rising against bad leadership.”

Chairman, National Think-Tank of the Ahmadiyya Movement, Alhaji Muftau Ayorinde, made the group’s call for arresting the perpetrators in a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos.

“We are deeply worried and disturbed by the recent fatal bomb blasts that rocked Jos on Christmas eve which left many people dead.

“Ahmadiyya is also pained by the bombings in Abuja on New Year’s eve. It is deadly, barbaric, inhuman and un-Islamic.

“Enough is enough and those behind it should be fished out and punished, the group said.

The statement said Islam abhorred violence and terrorism, adding that such dastardly acts should not be used to settle scores.
