Student excretes 68 wraps of hard drugs
Headlines, NDLEA (Anti-Drug Agency) Monday, January 3rd, 2011A final year student of Anambra State University, Igbiaram, has been saved from a possible execution in Malayisa, following his arrest by operatives of National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA.
The suspect (names withheld) was intercepted during routine screening of passengers on Emirate flight to Malayisa, at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport with over 68 wraps of substance that tested positive for methamphetamine weighing 1.210kg, which he ingested.
NDLEA Commander at the Airport, Alhaji Hamza Umar, said the 26-year-old suspect may have jeopardised his educational career over his lust for 5,000 dollars.
He said: “While he was under observation, he excreted 68 wraps of substance that tested positive to methamphetamine weighing 1.210kg. This may affect the pursuit of his educational career.”
Meanwhile, the suspect blamed his involvement in drug trafficking on the protracted strike action embarked by lecturers of the southeastern universities.
He said: “The strike was responsible for my involvement in drug trafficking. In April 2009, I met a man who wanted me to smuggle drugs but I refused. I told him that I will think over it. But when the lecturers went on strike I became idle and I had very little to do.
“Then the man called me after several weeks. I told him I could not do it but he kept persuading me. Since then we used to communicate and I gave in to him.”
