Marwa Threatens to Dump PDP
Latest Politics Friday, January 7th, 2011The crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead the 2011 elections might have crept into Adamawa State as former Lagos and Borno states military administrator, Brigadier General Buba Marwa, has threatened to quit the party to realise his governorship ambition.
While addressing a press conference, on Friday, Marwa did not hide his disdain at events happening in the state since the conduct of the first state ward delegates conference.
He told newsmen that the congress committee, sent from the PDP national headquarters, was in the state on December 28 to conduct a smooth exercise and submitted their result on the original results sheet given by the PDP national headquarters.
However, he alleged that Governor Murtala Nyako thereafter came up with his own result sheets on photocopied papers and tried to persuade the PDP national office to accept it, but it was rejected on the grounds of having already collected the authentic result of the congress from the congress committee sent to Adamawa State.
The PDP aspirant said ”the next thing we heard was that the national working committee of the PDP had cancelled the results and ordered a new election.”
According to him, the Marwa Campaign Organisation considered the decision to cancel the congress a betrayal of the hundreds of thousands of local PDP members who trooped out to participate in the December 28 elections of ward delegates.
He said the PDP called for repeat elections twice and both times, elections did not hold because the people rejected the call for repeat elections, despite various forms of inducement.
