PDP primaries: Atiku’s agents refuse to sign result sheets

The agents of former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar refused to sign the final results of the presidential primaries of the Peoples Democratic Party, which ended in Abuja on Friday.

The final result of the primaries showed that President Goodluck Jonathan won with 2,736, while Abubakar had 805. The third aspirant, Dr. Sarah Jubril, got only one vote.

But Abubakar said he should not be written off based on the result of the primaries, adding that he still had a lot to offer.

Already, the former vice-president said he had begun consultations with his political family before taking a decision on what he would do next. He had refused to congratulate Jonathan for winning the election.

The former vice-president assured that he remained irrevocably committed to a democratic Nigeria.

A statement by the Atiku Campaign Organisation in Abuja on Friday said that the former vice-president was committed to entrenching democratic governance, rule of law and democratic process.

It stated that Abubakar had commenced consultations with his supporters and other stakeholders and would be making a pronouncement on the PDP presidential primaries soon.

The Atiku Campaign Organisation said that part of his consultations would include the briefing by his agents, who declined to sign the final result on account of the lapses observed during the primaries.

According to the statement, the outcome of these consultations would determine the next line of action of the former vice-president.

He, however, thanked the PDP for the platform it had provided for the contest, delegates, supporters, campaign staff and well wishers for their support so far.

Meanwhile, the former vice-president had said there was nothing in the rumours making the rounds that he would defect to the Accord Party.
