Kano Gov. Shekarau Wins ANPP Presidential Ticket

The Kano State Governor, Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau has emerged the Presidential candidate of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) for the April general election. The Chairman of the ANPP convention committee, Chief John Odigie Oyegun, while clearing the air on the contravention of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) deadline, said the party had been granted extension of deadline by the commission for the submission of the name of its presidential candidate.
In the final result of the presidential primaries read out early this morning, the Returning Officer of the convention, Senator Ma’aji Lawal, said a total of  5,315 votes were cast out of which 142 were declared invalid. Shekarau polled 4,178 to clinch victory in the contest. Coming a distant second is Chief Harry Akande who garnered a total of 708 votes, while, Dauda Birmah was not able convince the delegates to vote for him, even with his powerful speech as he scored 148 votes.
Former Presidential candidate of the National Republican Convention (NRC) during the 1993 elections, Alhaji Ibrahim Uthman Tofa scored 139 to place last in the contest that witnessed over 5,000 delegates.  Lawal declared Shekarau as the winner.
