Nigerians bail out INEC with generators

SOME Nigerians had to bail out the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in their bid to register in the ongoing voter registration exercise by providing generators to enable the exercise to go on in some areas of Ibadan, Oyo State, on Sunday.

Investigation by the Nigerian Tribune revealed that a young man at one of the registration centres at the Ansar Ud-Deen Primary School, Ososami, worried by the complaints by the INEC officials, went home to bring a generator before the exercise could commence about 11a.m.

The INEC officials complained that the Direct Data Capturing (DDC) machines and scanners could not be operated due to ‘low battery’.

Also at the Ajengbe Ward 9, Ibadan South-West Local Government, the exercise could not commence until about 2.00 p.m when another young man, who is a kerosene dealer, provided a generating set.

“Please, I will leave this generator till about 5.pm because the fuel I bought can’t last more than that period,” the good samaritan declared.

The idea earlier suggested by a supposed young politician also at the registration centre that people should contribute money to power the generator yet to be seen, was received by innuendoes from one of the women around.

It was the same scenario at the centre located near our office at Imalefalafia as the exercise could not commence until about 3.00pm, after the wire drawn from the registration centre was connected to the security post of ANN Plc for power supply.
