Fresh trouble for Nwodo

Fresh trouble appears looming for former chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Okwesilieze Nwodo following a threat by unknown persons to burn down his home in Enugu State.
Also believed to be a target was the home of the ex-PDP chairman’s younger brother and former Information Minister, Chief Nnia Nwodo.

Dr Nwodo was removed on Tuesday after just seven months in office as national chairman of the ruling PDP. His removal was a fallout of the long drawn battle he had with the Enugu State Governor, Sullivan Chime on who was in charge of PDP in the state.

The motive of the group of persons plotting to burn down the home of the ex-PDP chairman is not known, but threat has thrown the family into panic.
However, to forestall the attempt to burn the property, police and operatives of the State Security Services (SSS) have been deployed to keep vigil at Dr. Okwesilieze Nwodo and his brother’s homes.
Yesterday when newsmen heard of the heavy security presence at the Nwodos’ homes adjacent each other on Imoke Street, GRA, Enugu, and visited the area, two police vans manned by well-armed policemen were seen, while a red Peugeot car used by SSS operatives was also parked at the entrance to the former minister’s house.

The security operatives kept sealed lips as the reporters tried to find out their mission in the area, especially as it was gathered that they had kept vigil in the two homes since Wednesday night. However, they appeared friendly and directed the reporters to higher authorities or the occupants of the homes.

An occupant of the house belonging to the former minister spoke on the development, saying that “we did not sleep last night when we got information that some people opposed to oga want to come and burn the two houses.” The young man who identified himself simply as Ikenna further said that “right now, we are living in fear.”
