We’ve lost interest – Kano eligible voters
Kano, State News Saturday, January 22nd, 2011AS Direct Data Capture (DDC)Machines have continued to pose a serious threat to the on-going voter registration exercise, thousands of people in Kano State have indicated interest not to participate in the exercise, saying they were losing millions of naira in the course of waiting to be registered.
At some registration centres in the state, few people were seen on queue to register, while many have resolved not to participate again, explaining they have lost huge amount of money they could have realised from their businesses when they came out to register but their hope was dashed because they left without being registered.
According to investigation by Sunday Tribune, at some registration centers in the state capital, many people who turned-up to register have been subjected to various degrees of stress as they were kept waiting for hours without success due to inability of the DDC machines to function well.
It was further gathered that many people who left their work places and businesses to participate in the exercise were disappointed at the problems of DDC machines.
Alhaji Ahmed Nura, a petty trader at Yankura Market told Sunday Tribune “this will be my third day, I have been struggling to get voter card, but you can’t believe it, it has not been possible.”
