Why We Raised Alarm Over Fake Voters – Alaibe

Director General of the Timi Alaibe Campaign Organisation, Senator Enatimi Rufus Spiff yesterday explained the reasons behind the out-cry of the Labour Party (LP) and other pro- Alaibe groups to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over alleged plots by some state government officials to register non-indigenes, saying such had prompted violence in the state.

The Odi and Kaima Communities of Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Council,the Sagbama town in Sagbama Local Council area and the Odenwari community of the Southern Ijaw Local Councils of the state had in the last few days witnessed unrests, following the arrests of some suspected non-indigenes and non-resident persons conveyed into the community for the purpose of registration.

The people of Odi community in Kolokuma/Opokuma led by their Paramount Ruler,the Amananamowei of Odi,King Shine Apre said the claims by the Timi Alaibe Campaign Orgnaisation was misplaced and had no iota of truth in them, insisting that the entire community resolved to mobilize their people within and outside Yenagoa to register for the exercise.

Briefing newsmen yesterday in Yenagoa on the fears of the Labour Party and the Governorship candidate of the Part, Mr. Timi Alaibe, the arrest of an Itsekiri Indigene identified as Bernard Ebikefe and the seizure of about six voters registration cards from suspected “mercenaries” allegedly imported to the state by some politicians has shown that the plot to truncate the on-going process is real and must be curtailed.

Senator Inatimi Rufus-Spiff said “the call has become imperative, as it is capable of igniting crisis in the region and subsequently made nonsense of the voters registration exercise.

It was revealed that some youths were arrested while trying to perfect the dastardly act in Odi and Kaima in Kolokuma/Opokuma local government area of the state and were handed over to the police.”
