Anichebe poised to deflate Mikel’s ego

Everton’s last triumph over Chelsea in the English FA Cup was in 1956, when it edged the Londoners 1-0 in the Round of 5. Since then, their four meetings had ended in three wins for Chelsea and a 1-1 draw, the most painful being Chelsea’s 2-1 defeat of Everton two years ago to lift the title at Wembley Stadium.

However, Everton has every opportunity under the sun now to cut back on that huge deficit in today’s lunchtime Round of 4 fixture holding at Goodison Park. It’s a game that has set Nigeria’s duo of John Mikel Obi and Victor Anichebe on collusion course.

It was Joseph Yobo and not Anichebe, who lost the trophy to Chelsea two years ago in the final. But Anichebe, who has been seeing regular action since his return from injury, would be part of the Everton’s trident, which also has Louis Saha and Mikel Arteta, who manager David Moyes would be unleashing on the Blues and watch how much damage they could cause at the Blue’s rear.

Saha has the record of scoring in the 25th second in their final with Chelsea in 2009, the fastest goal ever in any FA Cup encounter. He would be looking to sting Chelsea again even though he has not been doing well in recent times.
Lots of firework is expected from Tim Cahill, the Australian midfield maestro, who leads on the team’s goals’ chart. Judging by their 1-5 slicing of Scunthorpe in Round of 3, the Liverpool team has some fire to offer.
However, it would be fire for fire against Chelsea. The Blues are fast coming back to life after a series of fumbling in the recent past. On a good day, it would be easy to decipher which direction the pendulum of victory would swing, especially now that Didier Drogba has resumed his scoring role.

The team’s 3-0 victory over Bolton in the Premiership last weekend suggests that it could produce huge heat to grill the homer and then send the London Millionaires on the true path of recovery.
