Bid to stop Obasanjo and co: Daniel group to wait
Olusegun Obasanjo (1976-79, 99-07), Presidency Friday, February 4th, 2011A Federal Court sitting in Abeokuta aborted yesterday, moves by the Governor Gbenga Daniel faction of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to stop the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, from recognizing the candidates of the former President Olusegun Obasanjo group in the recently concluded primaries of the party.
The Daniel faction with Prince Gboyega Nasir Isiaka as its governorship candidate had, approached the Court seeking an Ex-Parte order to restrain INEC from recognizing the Obasanjo faction which picked Gen. Adetunji Idowu Olurin as it governorship candidate.
Counsel to the Daniel faction; Dr. Yemi Oke prayed the court to restrain INEC from recognizing the other faction and from substituting the name of the candidates submitted by his faction with other names from the other faction.Counsel to the Obasanjo/Martins Kuye group, Mr. Ajibola Oloyede called the attention of Justice Rita Ofilli-Ajumogobia to an application he had earlier filed challenging the jurisdiction of the Court to entertain the suit.
In her ruling, Justice Ofilli-Ajumogobia noted that since the matter involved only one political party, the appellants must be properly served and proof of service should be brought before her.
