The Benue State Police Command has arrested a medical doctor, Aondona Terdo, for allegedly bathing his former girlfriend with acid.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Opaluwa Aku, told the News Agency of Nigeria in Makurdi, the state capital, on Sunday that the suspect, who worked at the Saviour Medical Centre, Makurdi, was alleged to have poured acid on Deborah Tsee.
Aku said that Eunice Tsee, a sister to the victim, had reported at the ‘B’ Division Police Station, Makurdi on January 15, 2011, that an unknown attacker had poured acid on her sister and ran away.
“It was in the course of investigation that the medical doctor was identified as the suspect,” he said.
He said that Terdo, who had been released on bail, denied knowledge of the allegation against him.
According to the PPRO, Terdo claimed to have parted ways with the girl a year ago and had no reason to want to harm her.
Deborah, who spoke to NAN on her hospital bed at the Federal Medical Centre, Makurdi, said that the person who poured acid on her was dark in complexion while her former lover was light in complexion.
She, however, insisted that she suspected Terdo to have sent the attacker because he had earlier sent the same person to her.
According to her, the unnamed attacker came in company of one lady named Joy.
Deborah appealed to the government to come to her aid as she would require a plastic surgery to reduce the damage on her face and back.
