Investigate Daniel over Dipo Dina’s murder – Ogun ACN
Latest Politics, Ogun, State News Tuesday, February 8th, 2011THE Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, in Ogun State, has called on security agencies investigating the murder of Otunba Dipo Dina, the gubernatorial candidate of the party in the 2007 election in the state to extend their investigation to Governor Gbenga Daniel.
The party in a statement by its Publicity Secretary in the state, Mr. Sola Lawal said a remark credited to Daniel while speaking weekend, at the inauguration of his campaign committee, was a proof that the Ogun State chief executive had a hand in the killing of the late politician.
Commenting on the face-off between him and former President Olusegun Obasanjo over the list of the candidates for the forthcoming elections accepted by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, the governor had said, “I want you to shine your eyes. Those who stole our vouchers to nail me; where are they today?”
The governor’s statement, the party submitted, was a confession that has pooh-poohed the armed robbery theory put forward by the police on the murder of Dina who was gunned down in January last year at Ota by yet to be determined assailants who also made away with the car he was travelling in.
Dina, together with three others including Sola Lawal, the ACN spokesman, were in December 2006 arrested, brutalized and later tried over alleged theft of vouchers of Ogun State Government. The demise of Dina put paid to his trial while the other three are still being prosecuted.
The party further stated “the premature gloating of Governor Daniel over the sad ending of Dina is a clear pointer to the culpability of the maximum ruler of the state in the Dina affair. We can now confirm the widespread insinuation that the Daniel administration executed the incendiary plot against Dina, even though the Daniel government desperately but unsuccessfully tried to wash its hands clean of Dina’s blood.
“Beyond the crocodile tears shed in January 2010 by top officials of government, including the governor himself as well as poor display of bravado by them, the Ogun state people in particular and the nation in general, while still mourning and bearing their pains in difficult dignity over the loss of Dina, are persuaded that the progressive combative posture of Dina against Governor Daniel might not be unconnected with the former’s demise.
“Governor Daniel, going by the simply theory of cupus dilicti, has a lot to gain from Dina’s death since damaging revelation on Daniel administration would stop and therefore ensure more pliable atmosphere of looting by the governor and his cohorts”.
