IYC crisis won’t threaten peace in N-Delta- Ijaw youths
Headlines, Niger Delta Monday, February 28th, 2011CHAIRMAN, Forum of Clan Chairmen, Ijaw Youth Council, Mr Dio Reuben, has assured that the crisis rocking the leadership of Ijaw Youth Council, IYC, would not lead to tension or chaos in the Niger Delta region.
Speaking at the meeting of Clan Chairmen of IYC in Port Harcourt, Mr Dio said that the purported suspension of the national president of the IYC , Mr Miabiye Kuromiema by a faction of the national executive did not follow due process and as such was null and void. According to him, by the constitution of the body, if there was any need to suspend any national officer, the attention of the clan chairmen forum which serves as the parliament should have been notified.
He said the forum of clan chairmen had stepped into the matter to ensure the peaceful resolution of whatever differences that might exist between parties, assuring that the factional leadership crisis rocking the national executive body would not pose any threat to the region.
Noting that in the circumstance, Mr Miabiye Kuromiema still remains the substantive president of the body he called on parties in the crisis to sheath their sword.
On the post amnesty programme of the federal government he said it was a success so far but urged the government to still put in more effort. He called for concrete development programmes in the Niger Delta region.
Also in their separate comments, Isaac Yabo_ofori, Chairman, Bille clan and his counterpart, Joseph Enekebi, Chairman Oporo clan called for a common front of Ijaw youths in the region. They described the alleged suspension of the national president of the body as a rumour since in their view constitutional process was ignored by those behind the action.
Hailing the federal government post amnesty programme they urged the government to prevail on companies working in the area to create jobs for productive youths.
