INEC Postpones Bauchi South Senatorial Election
Bauchi, Elections 2011, NNP Elections 2011 Updates, State News Saturday, April 9th, 2011Twenty-four hours after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced the postponement of the National Assembly elections in some states, the Bauchi State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Senator Iliya Audu, also announced the postponement of the Bauchi South Senatorial District on Friday.
The affected senatorial district was not included in the original list released by INEC on Thursday.
Speaking with journalists in his office, Audu attributed the postponement to wrong coding, which was discovered late on Thursday, after the INEC Chairman, Professor Attahiru Jega, had given out a list of senatorial districts and constituencies where the elections would not hold on Saturday.
The REC added that, “for now, Bauchi South Senatorial district election has been postponed. It will now hold on April 26. This is as a result of wrong coding. The ballot papers recorded BA/103 instead of SA/014.”
The REC, however, said that the House of Representatives election would hold all over the state, including Bauchi South where the senatorial election was postponed.
Speaking on the last-minute trooping in of party leaders into the state INEC headquarters, Audu said it was to acquaint them with the new development so that they would not be caught unawares, adding that the state was now fully prepared for the elections.
