Voting peaceful despite beginning late in Taraba

Accreditation which began at about 11.35 a.m in most of the polling units visited especially in the southern geo-political zone of the state, was hinged on the lukewarm attitudes of the INEC officials posted to the various units Some of the polling officials who bared their mind to The Guardian, said the delay has become necessary in order to sort out the voting materials which according to him, took not less than thirty minutes each for a ward Piqued by this development, electorates in Nam nai, Tutare, Mutum-biyu wards in Gassol local government council, wondered if the exercise would be able to be completed as scheduled by INEC.
In the same vain, the Secretary to the State Government {SSG} Jonah Angyu while answering questions from The Guardian in Wukari local government council, stressed the need for INEC to extend the time fixed for the election in order to allow the eligible registered voter “cast their votes” Angyu who was visibly elated by the massive turn-out of electorates in spite of the delay said “I feel there is need for INEC to extend the time beyond 4p.m because we start very late which was as a result of the late arrival of voting materials”
Also answering question from The Guardian, the chairman, Taraba state traditional council, who also double as the traditional ruler of the Jukun kingdom the Aku-Uka of Wukari , Shekarau Angyu Masa-Ibi, prayed that the orderliness presently being achieve in the exercise, should be extended to the entire elections The traditional council as well as the state government, he said made available the on going peace in the state which has culminated to the success of the election. The institution, he added would continue to tread the paths that would led to hitch free election in the state While election in some parts of the state commenced at about 2p.m, some wards in Wukari as noticed by The Guardian commenced at about 3.30p.m
With the on going development, voting, in most parts of the state, would not come to an end at till 8 or 9 p.m In a chat with our state correspondent, the INEC Public Relation Officer (PRO) Muhtar Gidado earlier stated that the election materials were distributed to all the sixteen local government council two day before the commencement of the exercise In spite of INEC warning, some top government functionaries in the state were still seen in the company of heavily armed security personnel to the polling units. The security personnel mainly being used by these top government officials as observed by our correspondent, are the soldiers and the police.
