APGA alleges plot to rig Imo guber supplementary poll
Headlines, Imo, State News Wednesday, May 4th, 2011ABAKALIKI- Barely two days to the supplementary election ordered by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in the stalemated Imo
State governorship poll, the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, Wednesday alleged plot by the ruling party in the state to rig the
supplementary election through stuffing of ballot boxes with already thumb-printed ballot papers in favour of the incumbent Governor.
The Party also alleged that Governor Ikedi Ohakim had planned to empty the state treasury on the four local governments councils where the
re-run election is to take place, arguing that huge amount of money had been released to the affected local council areas to induce electorate against their wish.
In a Press statement issued in Abakaliki and signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Benard Akoma, APGA further alleged that the
re-run governorship election in Imo State for May 6, would afford the ruling PDP government in the state the opportunity to perfect plans to rig the election.
According to Akoma “APGA therefore calls on President Goodluck Jonathan to mandate members of the PDP to respect the new face of democracy in Nigeria by submitting to free, fair and credible ngovernorship election in Imo state come May 6, 2011.
Anything to the contrary is capable of dealing a devastating blow to the acclaimed good record of the Jonathan’s administration.
“APGA regretted that the devious lots by Imo state government to thwart the yearnings and aspirations of the people, could negatively
impact on Jonathan’s administration’s record of being the first to conduct widely accepted election in Nigeria since the country embraced
democracy in 1999.
Continuing “There is a well articulated arrangement to use Security Agents and embark on massive arrest of APGA agents on the election day
with the flimsiest excuse that they are creating confusion capable of disrupting the elections at the polling booths. The arrangement is to
regard any genuine complaint by APGA agents at the polling booths as reason to pick the agent and lock him up till the election is over.
