Jonathan recalls wife-battering Nigerian ambassador to Kenya, Dr. Wigwe

A women advocacy group, Women Arise, has condemned the conduct of the Nigerian Ambassador to Kenya, Dr. Chijioke Wigwe, who was reported to have inflicted serious bodily injuries on his wife, Mrs. Tess Iyi Wigwe, in a domestic violence.
In a statement by the President, WA, Dr. Joe Okei-Odumakin, on Tuesday, the group described the alleged conduct of the envoy as not only embarrassing to Nigeria but also a show of shame.
“The gross misconduct by the Ambassador apart from being a shame for a man of his exposure and education is also a national embarrassment to us as a people because the offender is the face of Nigeria in Kenya,” said the human right activist, who is also the President of Campaign for Democracy.
“It is doubtful if there is any enlightened wing of humanity that would have any respect for a country that posts a barbarian as its Ambassador.”
Okei-Odumakin added, “It is good to note that the Federal Government has recalled this wife beater from his post but that is just the beginning.
All civilised beings would like to see the full weight of the law being brought to bear on Dr. Wigwe.
“He must face criminal prosecution to serve as a deterrence to other bestial beings who have developed a neurotic appetite for wife battering.
“This is one case that must not be swept under the carpet if we want to repair our image that has been badly damaged by this grave misconduct.”
