The French President, Mr. Nicholas Sarkozy has written President Goodluck Jonathan asking him to bring perpetrators of the post-election violence in the northern states of the country.
Sarkozy, who congratulated Jonathan for his electoral victory, equally praised him for setting up a committee to investigate the mayhem.
He expressed confidence that the new tenure would afford his Nigerian counterpart the desired opportunity to improve the lot of his countrymen and women.
A statement from the Embassy of France in Nigeria quoted Sarkozy as saying, “On the occasion of your inauguration as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, I have the pleasure to reiterate to you my warm and sincere congratulations.
“I am happy to note that you have set up a committee to inquire into the violence which unfortunately tarnished these elections, and to ensure that the perpetrators do not go unpunished.
“I am convinced that your tenure will mark a new stage in strengthening democracy and development in Nigeria. France stands ready to give you its full support in the framework of the strategic partnership developed with your country.”
