CPC guber candidate set to appeal judgement

As the Election Petition Tribunal upheld the election of Governor Patrick Ibrahim Yakowa of Kaduna State in the 2011 general election, the governorship candidate of the CPC, Haruna Sa’eed Kajuru has described the judgment as compromise, saying he would appeal the judgment.

Speaking with newsmen shortly after the tribunal judgment yesterday passed the verdict, Kajuru said, “we have seen what the tribunal has done and we know that they have compromised, we know that they have erred, we know that the judgment was well decided ahead of today and so you can see the pattern of the presentation was very clear.”

“We are going to follow up because we know what their claims has been before through minor ruling during the case and we prepared adequately for the case, without delay we will not allow this miscarriage of justice to continue unabated, we will continue to pursue the case. We will move on and Insha Allah, the victory will come back,” Kajuru assured.

He however urged the supporters to remain law abiding and avoid any act of violence, “I urged my supporters to remain law abiding and comport themselves in a matured manner, we are moving to the next level to appeal the judgment,” he said. However, in his own reaction, Governor Yakowa had called on his opponent and the CPC Candidate, Haruna Sa’eed Kajuru to join hands with him in building Kaduna State.

The governor who equally spoke with newsmen after addressing a large crowd of supporters who have stormed the Government House, Kaduna to felicitate with him expressed confidence in his opponent, saying, “I believe Sa’eed has a lot to offer in the development of Kaduna State.” “The tribunal judgment is surely a confirmation of what happened in the April governorship election and I have nothing to say than to call on my opponent, my brother and good friend, Haruna Sa’eed Kajuru to join hands with me, so that we can build Kaduna State together.”

“I believe Haruna Sa’eed has a lot to offer this government in terms of advice for us to take Kaduna State to the next level,” Yakowa stressed. He however called on the people of the state to remain peaceful and law abiding, promising that, with peace, his government would work tirelessly to ensure accelerated development of the state. “At this point, I want to call on the people of Kaduna State to be peaceful and continue to prayer for the progress of the state. In fact, at this point we have to intensify our prayer, because it is with peace and prayer that can achieve progress,” said Yakowa.

Similarly, the PDP state chairman, Alhaji Ya’u Usman also called on the CPC candidate and his party to join hands with the government to move Kaduna state forward. Meanwhile, the first Executive Governor of old Kaduna State, Alhaji Abdulkadir Balarabe Musa when contacted for his reaction to the tribunal judgment said, he does not want to comment as he does not have confidence in any election petition tribunal in the country.

In a related development, the famous Kaduna based Human Rights Activist, Shehu Sani said he was not surprised by the judgement of the tribunal, stating that, the opposition has always suffered similar defeat at such tribunal. According to the comrade who was also a senatorial aspirant on the platform of the CPC in the 2011 election, “the judgment was predetermined, that was why the government had deployed security agents to every part of Kaduna”.

He however expressed confidence that the appeal court would reflect the true position of the electorates.
