Gunmen kill policeman in Kaduna

Two unidentified gunmen suspected to be members of the Boko Haram sect on Saturday afternoon killed a policeman and made away with his gun.

A tyre vulcanizer who was said to be working on the motorcycle belonging to the policeman was also shot when he raised the alarm.

The incident took place at 5:00pm along Samaru Road, near Excel Universal College in the Kakuri area of Kaduna South.

An eye witness, Ibrahim Sa’ad, told our correspondent that the two gunmen arrived at the scene of the crime on a motorcycle, shot the policeman twice and snatched his gun.

While the policeman died on the spot, passers-by rushed the vulcanizer to the Kakuri General Hospital for treatment.

“The gunmen came on a bike and pretended to want to talk to the policeman. One of them then pushed the policeman down. As the policeman was trying to get to his feet, one of them carrying the gun shot at him and he died immediately,” Sa’ad said.

The incident caused panic among residents of the area as many of them ran for their lives. Traders around also locked up their shops immediately.

The Kaduna State Police Public Relations Officer, Aminu Lawan confirmed the incident.

“We believe that the facts that we have started gathering would give us the clue. We need to get the culprits and bring them to justice,” he said.
