Jigawa: SS2 student, chief whip’s son dies in pool
Jigawa, State News Tuesday, May 22nd, 2012A Senior Secondary School two student of the Model International Secondary School, Dutse, Jigawa State and a son of the Chief Whip of the state House of Assembly, Nasiru Ibrahim, died in the swimming pool of a hotel at the weekend.
Reports from the state indicated that the late Nasiru sneaked out of school in the afternoon in accompany of his friends to swim in the hotel’s swimming pool.
Nigerian Tribune gathered that the deceased was a good swimmer and a regular visitor of the pool.
“The boy is very good at swimming. Most of the people that come here know him. His death is just act of God that can not be prevented,” a source close to the hotel who preferred anonymity told Nigerian Tribune.
The source further said: “we are all surprised how it happened because the pool opens at 3.00p.m and closes by 6.00p.m. People were there at closing time and they all left when they were asked to leave.”
“We are surprised was how he managed to sneak back and enter the pool,” the source said.
“They searched and called his name but did not answer. They raised the alarm and the security joined in the search. They dived into the pool after seen his shoes and clothes. He was rushed to the hospital. He was confirmed dead in the hospital,” the source said.
When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Abdu Jinjiri, said: “I was not in office for some time. It was yesterday I resumed. But there is no such report yet on my table. It must be from Dutse division but I will let you know if I receive it.”
