APGA urges Umeh to withdraw suits

BY PETER OKUTU

ABAKALIKI—THE All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA, Monday, called on the embattled chairman of the party, Chief Victor Umeh, to withdraw the various law suits he instituted against the party, saying such litigation were inimical to the growth and development of the party.

Briefing newsmen, National Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr. Bernard Akoma, stressed the need for unity and oneness in the party.

Akoma said all hands must be on deck to ensure that APGA move forward, despite the challenges facing it.

His words: “Umeh should emulate the PDP NWC members. A court pronounced that APGA convention was not properly held. But in the case of PDP, only INEC observed that the PDP convention was not properly held.

“As true democrats PDP obliged and agreed to the suggestion that they should do a proper convention according to the constitution.

“This same scenario played out in APGA where an Enugu State High Court, advised that APGA should go back and conduct a legal convention to elect national officers of the party”.

“But Umeh said no, instead of doing the right thing, he will prefer to hold the party in court till thy kingdom come. And that’s what brought the party to where it is today.

“I want to commend PDP because they are setting example for others to learn from. If they had chosen to be like APGA, today the party will be in litigation just like APGA. But they preferred to toe the line of good reasoning and their problem was resolved overnight.”

He charged the leadership and members of APGA to emulate the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, on how it (PDP) peacefully resolved issues bordering on the party’s National Working Committee, NWC, as litigation was not the best option for crisis resolution in any political arena.

“What we are saying is that Victor Umeh can’t claim to have the interest of APGA at heart and yet he is stagnating APGA by frivolous litigations.

“If he has the interest of APGA at heart, he should allow the party to move on just like members of PDP allowed their party to move forward”.
