Press release: Kalabari (Rivers State) Medical Mission: We need you, Fundraising-Jan, 2020
Headlines, Press Releases, State News Sunday, January 26th, 2020Minapu,
Happy 2020, We give Glory to the “Almighty ” for keeping us alive until today.
On behalf of the KNA executives and KMM committee for their commitment, I want to say THANK YOU, AGAIN.
Despite all the naysayers, It is because of you, your belief in our shared SINGLE GOAL, (to make a difference in the lives of the underprivileged in our beloved kingdom ) that KNA has been able to partner with the reputable O.B.Lulu Briggs Foundation for the past several years to conduct a medical mission in our Kalabari Kingdom. We are coming and counting on you again for 2020.
I am sure you have heard about the unprecedented and exciting upcoming events in Port-Harcourt June, 5-12, 2020; KNA’s 18th annual convention and launching of Kalabari University at the Presidential Hotel and the 4th annual Kalabari medical mission (pending site selection and final determination with our partner).
Minapu, it is NOT cheap to conduct a medical mission of this magnitude. It cost A lot of money, especially in Nigeria, where NOTHING is FREE, you pay or give money for anything you touch or come in contact with.
Given what we know about the dynamics of Nigeria, I am here to tell you those who wish to divide us, and want to undermine the important work we have been doing to make people’s health a little better, (even if it is just a “BANDAGE” to stop the bleeding) are in overdrive with misinformation. I want to appeal to you, before believing everything you hear or read, take time to talk to people who have benefited, the missionaries who have gone to these missions, and urge you to come to the meetings and listen to the facts and ask questions.
But most importantly, we want you to be a missionary to witness and experience the life changing experience.
There are so many other ways you can be involved or donate
1. Crowd fundraising through friends, churches, co-workers. DO NOT give KNA or KMM the money but fund something on the budget
2. Sponsor part of the budget- for example, rent 500 chairs and tables for 5 days, power the generators, renovate or refurbish the facility, pay security, pay crowd control, pay cleaners, pay for transportation for the missionaries, pay for feeding and accommodation. Pay honorarium to Nigerian providers or pay for hotel, security and feeding for the missionaries coming from America and Europe. (If interested, contact me for a budget line item)
3. Pay and ship supplies to Nigeria
4. Print T-shirt for missionaries (for example, Dumola Jack bought and printed 100 T-shirts for 2019 medical mission).
5. Contact your local lions club to donate glasses
6. Recruit other missionaries in health care
7. Buy over the counter (Costco, Sams, BJ’s size) multivitamins, calcium, Vitamin B-complex, vitamin C, folic acid, tylenol, Ibuprofen, acid reducer, anti diarrhea, cold medicine, Benadryl, other antihistamines, anti fungal creams, anti-itch, cortisone cream, diarrhea and constipation medicine, glucosamine .
8. Children and infant tylenol, ibuprofen, vitamins, anti-histamine, cough medicine
“Remember: teamwork begins by building trust. And the only way to do that is to overcome our need for invulnerability”
