Malaysian man sentenced to death via zoom

(NNP) A Malaysian man has become the first to be sentenced to death via zoom in neighbouring Singapore according to the country’s media outfit Strait Times. The 37 year-old man, Punithan Genasan, was accused of orchestrating a heroin deal in 2011 where he introduced two couriers to each other and asked one to travel to Singapore to meet the other to facilitate the trafficking.

Defending the use of zoom in such a serious decision, a spokesman for the Supreme Court noted that it was in order given the threat of the virus. He stated, “For the safety of all involved in the proceeding, the hearing for Public Prosecutor v Punithan A/L Genesan was conducted by video conferencing.”
