Canada extends U.S. border closure for another 30 days, to Aug 21

(NNP) Canada and U.S. have agreed to close their shared border for another 30 days, to August 21, after the expiration of the current closure on July 21. With souring coronavirus cases in the United States, both countries agreed it will be in their mutual interest to close the border for an extended period after which the situation in the United States will be reassessed and action taken accordingly.

The world’s longest border stretching 8,893 kilometer (5525 miles) has been closed since March at the peak of the pandemic, allowing only essential travels and goods and services. A majority of Canadians have urged prime Minister Justin Trudeau not to succumb to American pressure to reopen the border in light of what has been described as gross and alarming mismanagement of the pandemic response by American leaders.
