Impeachment: Aregbesola replies Mark
Governors, Legislature, Osun, Senate, State News Wednesday, December 29th, 2010Osun State Governor, Mr. Rauf Aregbesola, on Wednesday replied Senate President, David Mark, over the latter’s alleged involvement in a plot to destabilise the state.
Mark had in a statement on Tuesday dismissed Aregbesola’s allegations that Vice-President Namadi Sambo and the Senate president were involved in a plot to raise N1bn for the purpose of destabilising his administration. The Senate president, who also advised Aregbesola to behave like a ‘state governor and not like an area boy,’ threatened to sue Aregbesola if he failed to tender an apology.
However, Aregbesola told journalists at the Presidential Wing of the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos that Mark’s comments amounted to “making a loud noise.” The governor challenged Mark to deny or affirm the allegations rather referring to him (Aregbesola) ‘an area boy.’
Although the governor said it was not his business to join issues with Mark, he, however, said name-calling was ‘unbecoming’ of any statesman.
He said, “We will be making history while they will be making the noise. It’s left to you journalists to discern who is a man of civil disposition, honourable and who is dishonourable. It is not my business to join issues with him. I’ve told Nigerians what I’ve found out about them.”
Earlier, Aregbesola had said in a statement issued in the Osun State capital, Osogbo, by his campaign group’s Head, Media and Publicity, Mr. Gbenga Fayemiwo, that Mark should behave like a stateman.
“We have read the response of Senator David Mark on the plans being orchestrated to destabilise Osun State and wish to advise him that it is high time he begins to behave like a statesman, which the exalted office of the President of Senate demands of him.
“Mark should tell the world why he held a nocturnal meeting with four principal officers of the Osun State House of Assembly on December 1, 2010 in Abuja,” he said.
