ACN vows to win more S’South states

The Action Congress of Nigeria on Thursday vowed to make inroads into the South-South where it currently controls only one state – Edo.

Speaking to journalists after its South-South zonal caucus meeting, Senator Adego Eferakeya said the party would meet the Independent National Electoral Commission’s deadline for the submission of names of candidates for the 2011 elections.

Eferakeya, who is a serving senator from Delta State, said the party would work hard to win more states.

“We should work hard and be united so that we can win more states. As you know, ACN is the only party contending with the Peoples Democratic Party.

“We also spoke about the primaries that are coming up. The dates will be fixed very soon but tentatively, we expect that the primaries of the Action Congress of Nigeria will be on January 6 for the state houses of assembly; January 8 for National Assembly; governorship on January 11; and presidential primaries on January 15.

“We have all been told that there will be a meeting of the national executive to ratify this and some of these dates may change. We are also looking forward to collecting forms of expression of interest and nomination forms which you know are very essential before primaries can be conducted,” he stated.

Members of the caucus also expressed optimism that security agencies would provide adequate security during the party’s primaries and meetings.

Earlier in his opening remarks, Edo State Deputy Governor, Dr. Pius Odubu, called on members of the party to work hard to win more states in the zone.
