Bomb Blasts – We’re Closing-in on Perpetrators – Police

THE Police has said yesterday that they have uncovered clues that would lead to arrest of the perpetrators of the New Year eve bomb blast at the Mogadishu Barracks which killed 4 persons including a pregnant woman and injured 26 others including a five year old irl.

Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) in-charge of Zone 7, Command, made up of FCT, Kaduna and Niger States, Felix Ogbaudu made this disclosure while answering questions from journalists at a training workshop for police officers by Foundation For Peace and Security Education (FOPSE) on institutional capacity building on democratic policing to enhance operational effectiveness for violence free and peaceful 2011 election at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) police command.

Ogbaudu who said the force was making head way in the investigation acknowledged that the lot of the police in the investigations has been made more effective with the expertise of their foreign counterparts particularly that of the FBI, emphasizing that the clues would lead to tracking down of those responsible for the bombing as well as their sponsors

Commending the organizers of the workshop which he said was timely, the police boss urged participants to take the training seriously as the Nigeria Police was determined to play its role in achieving peaceful and credible general elections.

He expressed confidence with the level of preparation of the police for the elections pointing out that if all goes to plan, there would be no need for the military to get involve in elections which is a civic duty, arguing that though the police was the arrow head on internal security there were non-military agencies that could be involved.

He warned the officers to avoid being used by politicians for untoward behaviors during the elections, pointing out that with the advent of information technology, it was easy to record actions of officers even as CCTV cameras among others would be used to monitor the elections.

“Please, don’t allow yourselves to be used by any politician to rig elections. Don’t dent the image of the police in this coming election because if you are caught, you will be disgraced and severely punished

Remember the security challenges facing the country presently, ranging from Boko Haram, and Bomb blast amongst others. The police have primary duty to ensure internal security and cannot afford to fail the nation. We must do our best to secure lives and properties,” the AIG stated.

Earlier, Barr Lawrence Alobi, former Commissioner of Police (Rtd) and Chief Executive of FOPSE in his opening address said the Train the Trainer (TOT) workshop organized in collaboration with the Nigeria Police for the different zones in the country was aimed at building capacity of personnel on democratic policing towards the general elections.
