Pro-subsidy protest: Gani’ll be happy in his grave – Wife

The wife of late Chief Gani Fawehinmi, Ganiyat, on Friday in Osogbo, said that the spirit of her husband was behind Nigerians in the fight against the removal of fuel subsidy.

The widow said that ineptitude and corruption on the part of the Federal Government was the reason behind removal of fuel subsidy.

Ganiyat called for a reversal to the old pump price of N65 per litre, adding that Nigerians had been abused by the sudden removal of subsidy from oil.

She said, “President Goodluck Jonathan will not have peace of mind if he does not revert to the old pump price of litre. He has no choice but to revert to the old price.

“Jonathan must listen to the voice of the people. He (Jonathan) said he did not wear a pair of shoes until he was 13. Is this how to repay Nigerians for voting for him?”

Various human rights groups came together under the umbrella of Joint Action Forum to stage protest against removal of subsidy from oil.

Human right leaders that led the protest included Amitolu Shittu, Alhaji Wahid Lawal, Mr Abiodun Agboola, and Mr Rufus Oyatoro, among others.

The protesters marched along Ola-Iya, Oke-Fia, Old Garage, Ogo-Oluwa, Abere, Alekunwodo.

The Special Assistant to Governor Rauf Aregbesola, Mr. Bola Ilori, joined the protesters at Ola-Iya, and trekked with them for several kilometers.

Ilori said the protesters had the right to voice their disagreement with government policies, adding that protests must be conducted peacefully.
