It was gathered that luck ran out on the suspects on Monday, when they were returning from a robbery operation also in a commercial bank at Owutu, Ikorodu area of the state and some policemen on stop-and-search accosted them.
The suspects were said to have identified themselves as policemen serving in one of the Mobile Squadroms but the stop-and-search policemen became suspicious when they saw some masks on the seat of the Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) they were operating  in.

The stop-and-search policemen, who were not convinced with the explanation  of the suspects promptly arrested them and took then to the State Anti-robbery Squad (SARS), Ikeja.
It was further gathered that when a search was conducted on their vehicle, arms, ammunition, masks, money and other personal effects were recovered.
One of the police investigators during interrogation  discovered that the alleged gang leader, Onyeka, from Delta State had in January, this year been arrested  for robbing a commercial bank.
The suspects’ houses were searched and detectives who conducted the search were shocked  to see a statement of account belonging to the alleged gang leader, Onyeka.
A police source alleged that Onyeka’s bank account with a new generation bank runs into several millions of naira.

The police source claimed the money was more than N18 million and revealed that Onyeka used another name Eboma Prince to open the account.
He said when the police stormed the bank, they discovered that the photograph in the account was  that of Sergeant Eboma Onyeka.

The source said Onyeka was serving in a private company, in Apapa. He revealed that the suspect who is now on the run  was one of those posted on guard from the Commissioner of  Police’s office.
In his words: “The suspects were in two vehicles. The four were arrested in one while the one on the run was all alone in another vehicle. But when he resumed work at the gate on Tuesday, he got the hint that his colleagues had been arrested and took  to his heels.”

The source said  that when detectives stormed his house, they were  told that he had not returned home.
When contacted for comment, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Samuel Jinadu said: “I am not aware of what you are saying. So, I cannot say what I don’t know, but you can wait for me to make some enquiries,” he said.
