Maigari uses Eagles’ victory to campaign for CAF executive position (all this after you planned to fire keshi)

Nigeria Football Federation, (NFF) President, Alhaji Aminu Maigari, has turned the Super Eagles’ victory at the just-concluded Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa, into a launching pad to campaign for an executive position in the Confederation of African Football (CAF). Dependable source hinted Daily Sunsports yesterday that Maigari capitalized on the heavy presence of Nigerian administrators in South Africa to intensify his campaign to represent the country in the CAF executive committee.

Maigari had earlier met with the CAF’s President, Issa Hayatou, on his quest to be part of the continent’s football ruling body when he arrived South Africa but ran into a brick wall when he was asked to bring an official letter from the Nigerian Government, assuring his support. But Maigari immediately called on the Sports Minister, Bolaji Abdullahi, Interim head of the local league, Hon. Nduka Irabor, International Marketing guru, Chief Mike Itemuagbor to help him lobby Hayatou.

The minister later informed Hayatou that the Federal Government was behind Maigari’s CAF bid, pleading that he should be supported by the committee. Maigari is expected to battle Benin Republic football chief, Alhaji Musharaf Anjorin, for a seat in CAF. The embattled Benin FA boss has been campaigning since last year on his intention to remain in CAF.
