No apology over Islamic banking – Sanusi
CBN (Central Bank of Nigeria), Religion, Top Stories Friday, July 22nd, 2011 The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi yesterday defended the controversial policies of Islamic banking and the introduction of a daily limit on the withdrawal of cash saying the decision of the bank was backed by legal provisions and not to advance the cause of any religion.
Mallam Sanusi spoke yesterday when he appeared before the House of Representatives to explain the reasons behind the policies and to give an insight into the new policies introduced by the Apex bank.
The House of Representatives had summoned the CBN boss to appear before it over the introduction of Non-Interest banking and the limitation of daily cash withdrawal by the bank.
The CBN governor who was ushered into the House chambers at about 11.30am spotting a dark grey jacket received a loud applause from members of the house of Representatives who however could not quiz him any further because the house had to adjourn in honour of Chairman of the National Assembly Service Commission, NASC, Mr. Ahmed Aliyu Dogondaji who died yesterday morning.
