Robbers attack Sunshine Stars
Soccer, Sports Sunday, January 29th, 2012Dare devil armed robbers attacked Nigeria Premier League side Sunshine Stars of Akure on their way to Katsina-Ala for the Week five match against Lobi Stars of Makurdi.
The men of the underworld swooped on the team around Isua-Akoko in Ondo State and succeded in carting away valuables items like handsets, team jerseys, bags, boots and large sum of money.
Narrating how it happend to Tribunesports on phone, chief coach of the club, Gbenga Ogunbote said the club bus had developed fault around that area and no sooner had it been repaired and the team was about resuming its trip, than the robbers struck.
“It was a serious issue and a very harrowing experience, we were robbed of virtually everything that we had. In fact, we had to cancel the journey because we were rendered penniless by the robbers.
“Immediately they left we had to inform our management about the development and we were left with no other option but to abort our journey,”explained the soccer tactician.
Ogunbote, said the team was, however, full of appreciation to God that no life was lost during the incident.
