Super Eagles leave for Dubai for Egypt friendly

Abuja – Goalkeeper Chigozie Agbim and 20 other Super Eagles’ players on Monday left Abuja for Dubai for Thursday’s international friendly match against the Pharaohs of Egypt.

The Chief Media Officer of the Nigeria Football Association (NFA), Ademola Olajire who disclosed this in a press statement said the players were led by team assistant coach Daniel Amokachi.

“Amokachi is standing in for the team’s Head Coach, Stephen Keshi who is holidaying in the U.S and will join the Eagles in Dubai on Tuesday,’’ he said.

Olajire said the team travelled out of Nigeria aboard an Ethiopian Airline aircraft and would stop over in Addis Ababa before a three-hour flight to Dubai.

He disclosed that the 21-man squad consists of two goalkeepers, six defenders, seven midfielders and six strikers.

“Agbim who is the team captain and plays for CAF Confederation Cup campaigners Warri Wolves will have as cover goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi.

“The defenders are Azubuike Egwueke, Papa Idris, Juwon Oshaniwa, Hamed Adesope, Godfrey Oboabona and Nura Mohammed,’’ the NFA spokesman said.

He named the team’s midfielders as Ejike Uzoenyi, Uche Ossai, Obinna Nwachukwu, Henry Uche, Gabriel Reuben, Ogonna Uzuchukwu and Bartholomew Ibenegbu.

“The strikers in the team are Gbolahan Salami, Uche Kalu, Mohammed Lawal, Izu Azuka,
Sunday Mba and Barnabas Imenger Jnr.,’’ Olajire said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Thursday’s game will be coach Stephen Keshi’s sixth match in charge of the senior national team.

Under his command, the team has secured two wins and three draws from five matches.(NAN)
