Yobo canvasses vote for Amaechi’s re-election •Okrika people declare support for gov

Captain of the Super Eagles of Nigeria, Joseph Yobo, has called on all Rivers people to vote the state governor, Rotimi Amaechi, for a second term in office come April 16, this year.

This is just as former governorship candidate of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) in the state, Chief Sergeant Awuse, warned voters to be on the alert on election days as some elements in the opposition parties had perfected plans to cause confusion and disrupton the elections.

Yobo, who spoke on Wednesday at the grand finale of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship rally at Oroworukwo, Port Harcourt, based his reason for the call on the visible development he had seen in the state.

The Nigerian international, who spoke among other dignitaries, said he was amazed at the transformation he came back to meet in Port Harcourt, citing the primary health care programme and the model primary schools.

According to him, while schooling in Rivers as a child, he did not enjoy the kind of beauty he was seeing in the state now.

“In London, I came across some young persons who are also from my place I asked them what they were doing in London and they said they were on Rivers State government scholarship. I have been impressed by this development from all areas.

“I am urging you all to go out on the election day and vote for Governor Amaechi because I know that with him there is hope, there will be more of these developmental projects and human development. I urge you all to vote for the PDP at the polls,” he said.

Also speaking, former governorship candidate of the ANPP, Chief Sergeant Awuse, cautioned the people of the state to open their eyes to prevent those who had planned to come and disrupt the election.

According to him, the plan was to cause chaos at polling boots and thereby perfect their rigging plans, urging them to be vigilant and protect their votes from those who wanted to steal their votes.

Also, traditional rulers from Kirike and Abuloma extractions of Okrika Kingdom of the state have, on behalf of their people, declared their total support for the re-election bid of Governor Amaechi in view of what they described as his five-star performance as governor of the state.

The traditional rulers, who pledged their total support for the candidature of Governor Amaechi in two separate solidarity visits, led by His Royal Highness Emmanuel Obudibo, the Amanyanabo of Ogoloma and Chief Dr Bernard Aprioku Okome, told him that their support stemmed from the genuine peace the governor had brought to Okrika Kingdom since 2008.

Chief Bernard Okome, who reflected on the unprecedented economic and social development brought to their area by the present government, which included health centres, primary schools, skills acquisition centre, electricity, roads and bridges that are already in use within the short period in office.

The chairman, Kirike Council of Chiefs particularly commended the governor for redesigning and completing the Chief Rufus Ada-George Ring Road that was abandoned by the previous contractor.

According to Chief Okome, “the only way to show our appreciation is to ensure that our people vote massively for you and all PDP candidates to enable you to complete the achievements,” emphasising that the former governor, Chief Rufus Ada-George, was working cooperatively with them to ensure total victory for him.
