Bomb scare in Akwa Ibom as police deploy 7000 for Akpabio’s inauguration
Akwa Ibom, Headlines, State News Sunday, May 29th, 2011The Commissioner of Police in Akwa Ibom State, Felix Uyanna, says his command has received an intelligence report on a planned bomb threat ahead of the inauguration of Governor Godswill Akpabio for a second term in office and has since taken appropriate measures to foil such possible plans.
CP Uyanna, who briefed the media on preparation of his command for the inauguration which will take place at the Uyo township stadium, did not give further details on the tipoff they got on the bomb threat but disclosed that proactive security measures had been adopted to forestall any threat to security of lives and property.
According to him, more than 7,000 police officers have been deployed to ensure adequate and effective security coverage in all the designated places and beyond.
“The bomb disposal is on a razor-sharp alertness for any bomb threat. The Mobile/Quick Intervention Units are combat ready for any security distress. Our revitalized Crowds Control/Traffic Section, on the other hand, has been properly positioned for crowd and traffic challenges,” he added.
The police boss further disclosed that collaborative effort with all security forces is in place, saying “our border patrol and marine sections are on the red alert to ward off criminal elements.”
