Court orders arrest of Plateau SSG, LG boss
Plateau, State News Tuesday, April 5th, 2011
A High Court in Jos has issued a warrant of arrest against the Secretary to the Plateau State Government, Mr. Samson Dimka, and the Chairman of Wase Local Government, Alhaji Mohammed Abubakar.
The order, given by Justice Daniel Longji of the Langtang High Court, followed the inability of the state government to adhere to a judgment of the Plateau State Local Government Election Petition Tribunal and the Local Government Election Appeal Tribunal, which upheld the election of Alhaji Zakari Mohammed of the Action Congress of Nigeria as the duly elected local government chairman for Wase.
Mohammed had dragged Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party, to the tribunal, on the grounds that he (Mohammed) was the winner of the November 27, 2008 local government election in Plateau State.
The tribunal had on March 18, 2009 sacked Abubakar as the council boss, which was subsequently affirmed by the Appeal Tribunal on June 3, 2009 but the Governor, Mr. Jonah Jang, was alleged to have refused to inaugurate the ACN candidate.
Abubakar was forced to institute contempt proceedings against the government and the chairman. The court said the state government refused to put up appearance.
In giving the order, a copy of which was obtained by our correspondent on Tuesday, Longji said upon consideration of the contempt proceedings against the Attorney General and the government of Plateau State and their refusal to honour the summon from the court without any reason, that a bench warrant be issued against the SSG and the council boss.
He said, “It is hereby ordered that Bench Warrant is issued against the Chairman of Wase LGC and Samson Dimka, Secretary to Plateau State Government. They were given up to Wednesday (Today) to make themselves available to the police.
