FG sponsors 36 N’Delta youths for overseas programmes
Headlines, Niger Delta Friday, August 9th, 2013The Office of the Special Adviser to the President on the Niger Delta, Mr. Kingsley Kuku, has awarded scholarship to 36 youths of the Niger Delta for degree programmes in the United States.
The Technical Assistant to the Presidential Amnesty Programme, Larry Pepple, who represented Kuku at a send-off for the youths at the Abuja Sheraton Hotel on Thursday, said that the youths were not ex-militants.
Pepple said that the youths who were selected from communities impacted by oil production and militancy in the Niger Delta, were given admission to the Alabama State University.
He listed their courses of study to include Medicine, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Computer Science, Biological Sciences, Petroleum Engineering, Forensic Chemistry, Criminology, Banking and Financial Services, Marketing amongst others.
Pepple said that the Office of the Special Adviser to the President on the Niger Delta would give further encouragement to those who excel in their respective studies.
“You must be conscious of the fact that you are lucky to be part of this scholarship; you are not ex-militants; you are from impacted communities.
“You must avoid taking drugs, do not go near it because you don’t need it. You are not to take it; you must also note that the law forbids you from transporting it or moving it from one place to the other.
Speaking also, the Head of Post Training at the Presidential Amnesty Office, Mr. Freeman Mologe, advised the youths to associate only with brilliant colleagues in related disciplines.
He also warned them against frivolous spending and violence.
