FIFA rankings: Eagles stagnant as Ghana surge

Nigeria remained stagnant at 52nd place in the latest FIFA rankings for the month of January, 2013.

The Super Eagles, however, are 9th in Africa as Cote d’Ivoire remain Africa’s number one nation but 14th in the world

Meanwhile, Ghana have moved four places up in the latest FIFA ranking.

The Black Stars climbed from last year’s 30th place to 26 but remained the continent’s fourth best nation.Ghana amassed 788 points on the table but stayed behind their Nations Cup Group B opponents Mali who maintained their world ranking in 25th position.

The four-time continental champions beat Egypt and Tunisia last week in pre-Nations Cup friendlies.

Ivory Coast still remained the best ranked Africa country after an unchanged 14th place on the FIFA ranking.

Algeria, who face Ivory Coast, Togo and Tunisia in Group D, slipped three places down to 22nd but held on to second spot on the continent.
