Gunmen kill director, 2 others, set bodies ablaze in Plateau

Even as security men are yet to unravel those behind the murder of a councilor in Barakin-Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State, unknown persons have again killed three persons in the same local government and set ablaze their bodies on Monday evening.

The local government council, which is still under the state of emergency rule along with three others in the state, had been witnessing series of attacks by gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen.

According to information gathered, at about 8:30 pm on Monday, the Director Finance and Supply of Jos East Local Government and two other persons, travelling in a vehicle were waylaid by unknown gunmen near Gashish village in the local government and shot them to dead.
A source close to the scene said the assailants riddled the vehicle with bullets and when they ascertained that the occupants were dead, drove them in the same car they were killed to a nearby bush and set the car ablaze.

It was the thick smoke, which enveloped the air from the burning vehicle that attracted passerby to the scene. The occupants of the vehicle were identified through the plate number of the car and other stickers on the car.
When contacted, the Information Officer of the Special Task Force, Captain Markus Mdahyelya, confirmed the incident, stating that three unidentified people were ambushed and killed on Monday in the border area between Brakin-Ladi and Bokkos local government areas of the state.
He advised the people of the area and the entire state to take their personal security serious and avoid going out in the nigh, stating that men of the STF could not be everywhere considering the terrain.
