With five goals and one assist at the just-concluded Africa Cup of Nations, retired Super Eagles striker Odion Ighalo emerged the top scorer of the competition to take home the Golden Boot award for the top marksman.
Ighalo netted the only goal of the game for the Eagles in Wednesday’s third-place win against Tunisia to take his tally in the tournament to five, which ensured that fellow contenders, Sadio Mane, RiyadMahrez, Adam Ounas, Cedric Bakambu all lost out on the prestigious award.
Before the third-place clash against the Carthage Eagles, Ighalo had scored a goal in the opening game against Burundi, few minutes after coming on from the bench; a brace and a sublime assist against Cameroon in the Round of 16 and another goal from the penalty spot against Algeria in the semi-final.
