Jonathan approves orientation programme for FEC
Goodluck Jonathan (2010-present), Presidency Wednesday, October 31st, 2012PRESIDENT Goodluck Jonathan has given approval for the National Orientation Agency (NOA) to organise a value-orientation programme for the Federal Executive Council (FEC) as part of the transformation agenda of government.
Director-General of NOA, Mr Mike Omeri, stated this at the inauguration of the second phase of the agency’s patriotism and ethics first training programme, organised for media practitioners, security officers and public servants.
He said NOA was already working out modalities for the orientation programme, noting that the president was of the belief that leadership must blaze the trail in creating the required attitude change for national transformation.
Minister of Water Resources, Mrs Sarah Ochekpe, who performed the inuaguration, stated that, although the media was a strategic part of the transformation agenda, it had done little to foster unity in a nation of diverse groups.
This, she said, necessitated the attitude reorientation programme.
According to her, “it is attitude that has brought us to where we are now and in order for us to make progress and achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) we need to do the right thing.”
Speaking on the occasion, Minister of Environment, Hadjia Hadiza Ibrahim-Mailafia, noted the relevance of every Nigerian to the national transformation process.
Citing the often touted “fallen standard of education” in the country, she stated that since the curricular of education had been maintained and improved over the years, the standard of education had not fallen, rather it was the standard of attitude and delivery of operators in the education system that had fallen. Hence, the index of indiscipline in all sectors must be fought to a stand still for the nation to make the desired progress.
