Kogi 2011: Cloud over PDP guber candidate’s membership card

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Kogi State chapter has denied reports that the governorship candidate of the party for December 3 election, Captain Idris Wada is not a registered member of the party.

Addressing journalists in Abuja yesterday, state chairman of the party, Hassan Salau debunked the report as unfounded. Salau disclosed that Wada was duly registered, having being a registered member of the party, since 2005 when he was registered at Odu Ward 1, Dekina Local Government Area of the state. “Captain Idris Ichalla Wada, is a legally registered member of our great party, the PDP and is duly registered at Odo Ward 1 of Dekina local government of Kogi State since 2005.

Captain Idris Wada was appointed by the PDP as the zonal treasurer (north central) of the Jonathan/Sambo campaign organization 2011 and did serve in that capacity without any blemish. In appreciation of Captain Wada’s modest contribution to the success of President Goodluck Jonathan/Sambo success in the presidential election, he was short-listed by the PDP among other nominees for appointment by the president.

It is not within contemplation that PDP would appointed Captain Wada into zonal structure of the Goodluck/Sambo campaign organization and further recommend him to the president for federal appointment.” But in a new twist to the story related to journalists by the party chairman, Yunusa Omagada, who claimed to be the PDP secretary for Odu ward 1, where Captain Wada claimed to have registered had disowned the PDP governorship candidate.

Omagada in an affidavit sworn to at the Nasarawa State High Court, disclosed that he never issued a membership card to the PDP governorship candidate. In a startling revelation, Omagada who claimed that he ceased to be party secretary for the ward in 2008 declared that an alteration was made on the original party register to accommodate Captain Wada, as a member of the party.

“I have however seen from the register that the original entry on serial No 583 has been altered by the entry of a strange membership card N0 7455310 in the name of one Idris. I Wada which was written in place of an earlier registered name by using correcting fluid to obliterate the former name.”
