Monarch’s death: Fish out killers, Akpabio charges police

THE Akwa Ibom State governor, Chief Godswill Akpabio, has directed the police, the State Security Service (SSS) and other security outfits to comb everywhere in the state and beyond, and fish out the murderers of the paramount ruler of Nsit Ubium Local Government Area, Edidem Robert James Obot, on Sunday.

The governor gave the directive, on Monday, when the state chairman of chiefs, Uwa Umo Adaika, led other paramount rulers to the Government House, Uyo, over the murder of their colleague by unknown assailants.

Expressing deep shock over the incident, Chief Akpabio said “this is the first time, since Akwa Ibom State was created, that people will have the audacity and effrontery to go and carry arms and murder God’s anointed monarch of that magnitude.”

He described the late Edidem Obot as a great patriot of the state, adding that “even, if human beings were not able to investigate and bring the culprits to book, the God of our fathers, the God of our monarchs will rise and fight his war and the culprits shall be brought to book.”

He said his government was determined to fight crime in all ramifications, adding that the current trend, where, at the slightest provocation, people carried arms against one another in other parts of the country, should not be allowed to take its root in Akwa Ibom.

Akpabio said the government would reward anybody who volunteered useful information that would lead to the arrest of the murderers, while assuring the chiefs that the government would look at circumstances surrounding the murder.
