NDDC: Plot against Nwagboso ’ll fail -Forum
Niger Delta Thursday, September 29th, 2011Less than 24 hours after Ukwa West Youth Assembly opposed the nomination of Mr. Alloysius Chijindu Nwagboso to the board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), another group has countered that the plot against him will fail.
Nwagboso was the former Abia representative in the dissolved NDDC Board.
This time around, Ukwa West Grassroots Forum, the umbrella group of all youth groups in the local government has said Nwagboso’s records of service in the commission should recommend him for another term, should President Goodluck Jonathan forward his nomination to the Senate for confirmation.
In a counter-petition, which was also sent to President Goodluck Jonathan and the President of the Senate, David Mark yesterday, the group insisted that the first petition was aimed at painting Nwagboso in bad light.
“We, members of the Ukwa West Grassroots Forum, the umbrella group of all youth groups in the local government, wish to put on record that the said publication is only aimed at tarnishing the good name of the barrister.
“We wish to state that the achievements recorded during Nwagboso’s tenure as Abia State representative at the NDDC was well documented by the Abia State House of Assembly, which passed a resolution backing his re-nomination as commissioner in the commission in 2009. “His record of service was unequivocally authenticated by the Abia State House of Assembly in the resolution dated May 12, 2009.
“In that resolution with reference No. AHA.3/AD/F/213, the lawmakers stated clearly that Nwagboso served the state and the nation meritoriously and that the Federal Government should not entertain any delay in reappointing him into the position. “It is also on record that the suits referred to by the Ukwa West Youth Assembly were struck out for lack of merit by the Federal High Court. The suits were struck out respectively on March 27, 2007 and May 25, 2008 respectively.
“Also, on March 14, 2010, the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja under Justice D.U Okorowo, gave a ruling, which confirmed that Nwagboso’s removal, alongside the board of NDDC, which was dissolved in 2009 was premature and that he should be reinstated to complete his tenure.
“We clearly note that the petition against Nwagboso from the said Ukwa West Youth Assembly amounts to deliberate falsehood, which is not only malicious but mischievous. It is aimed at tarnishing his image and unblemished records of service and as well preempt any attempt by the administration to reinstate him.
“We urge your Excellency to discountenance in its entirety the claims contained in the petition as they lack merit. Nwagboso’s records of meritorious service have been well documented by representatives of Abia State as contained in a resolution of the Abia State House of Assembly.”
