Nigeria midfielder Christian Obodo has been abducted in the Effurun suburb of Warri in Delta State.
Obodo, who was driving alone in his car with a customized number plate, was abducted soon after visiting an in-law on Saturday morning.
A family member told KickOffNigeria.com that the player’s car was left behind and no ransom demand has as yet been received.
Kidnapping is common in the country, but so far only footballer’s families have been targeted.
Joseph Yobo’s brother Nornu was the first high-profile incident, followed by the father of Chelsea star Jon Mikel Obi.
Obodo is the first footballer to be abducted.
