U.S. Attorney-General, William Barr, resigns

The United States Attorney-General, William P. Barr, has resigned. Trump announced his resignation moments after the Electoral College confirmed Biden’s resounding victory on November 3. In a tweet, Trump stated, “Just had a very nice meeting with Attorney General Bill Barr at the White House. Our relationship has been a very good one, he has done an outstanding job! As per letter, Bill will be leaving just before Christmas to spend the holidays with his family.’ He continued,

“Deputy Attorney General Jeff Rosen, an outstanding person, will become Acting Attorney General. Highly respected Richard Donoghue will be taking over the duties of Deputy Attorney General. Thank you to all!”

Barr who had been Attorney-General for the last two years, had been at loggerheads with the president since he declared that his investigations revealed no wide-spread election irregularities as alleged by the Trump campaign.

Sources says Trump had been unhappy with his most trusted cabinet member for that declaration and for refusing to announce an investigation of Hunter Biden, the son of Joe Biden, for his involvement in China. Trump believed that such an announcement before the election would have improved his chances of winning, damaging Biden. Barr was the second Attorney-General after the first, Senator Jeff Sessions, was forced out of office for recusing himself from the Russian interference probe. Barr’s last day is December 23.
