UNILORIN Signs Pact With British Varsities
Education, Headlines Saturday, January 29th, 2011In a move to advance teaching, research and community service in line with global best practices, the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN), recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Swansea University and Swansea Metropolitan University both in United Kingdom.
The vice chancellor of Swansea University, Prof. Richard B. Davies during the brief ceremony lauded the vice-chancellor, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, for his efforts at bringing the university to global perspectives in response to contemporary issues and challenges occurring both within and outside its immediate environment.
Prof. Davies noted that the two universities have many things in common. He stressed the commitment of Swansea University to creating mergers that will ensure that students do not pick the university just for degree but for experience. He also said Swansea University aims at becoming an International Centre for learning and training as well as creating a network of a university that is multi-disciplinary
Prof. Oloyede, also expressed appreciation for the invitation extended to UNILORIN by Swansea University and noting that the institution is willing to collaborate with both universities that are universal in scope and are not limited by race, colour or geography.
He was particularly interested in partnering with Swansea in its new nursing programme, which he said is intended to emphasize the clinical service dimension of nursing and produce graduates with appropriate self-esteem that will be effective team players in quality healthcare delivery.
