4 arrested over plan to stone Jonathan in Zamfara
Goodluck Jonathan (2010-present), Presidency, State News, Zamfara Sunday, March 13th, 2011FOUR members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Zamfara State have been arrested in connection with the alleged plan to stone President Goodluck Jonathan and Vice-President Namadi Sambo during their campaign visit to the state on Monday, last week.
Investigations carried out by the Nigerian Tribune showed that a tailor was given a contract of sewing clothes with All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) logo, to be worn by the PDP members, so as to disguise and stone the president and his deputy.
It also revealed that the arrested attackers had mentioned names of some of the PDP leadership of the state, who were alledged to have masterminded the deal and claimed that huge amount of money was released to them to ensure the success of the plan.
The report said the plan failed as a result of a leaked information to the State Security Service (SSS) by one of the hoodlums who complained of being underpaid.
The four were apprehended by the police while inspecting the clothes at the Government House, Gusau.
However, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Fatai Adio Shittu, at a press conference held at the state command headquarters, announced the arrest of the syndicate who intended to cause unrest and rancour during the presidential visit.
